The Courtland Tack & Horse auction is a fun, family-friendly event. There are concessions and restroom facilities on site. Dogs are allow but must be on a leash or in a kennel at all times. Dog owners are responsible for picking up after their animal.


To participate, all you need is a bidder's number and you're ready to start shopping. There is no fee to attain a bidder's number - all you need is to be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver's license.

What is a buyer's premium and is there one at Courtland Tack & Horse Auction?

A buyer’s premium is a additional charge, usually a straight percentage, that a buyer is charged based on the hammer price. This becomes the actual price that the buyer is charged for the item when checking out. The buyer’s premium is an additional charge, not an additional tax.

There is no buyer's premium at the Courtland Tack & Horse Auction.

Can I bid online?

No. However, we do stream the saddle and horse portion of the auction on the Courtland Tack & Horse auction Facebook page.

How do I register as a phone bidder?

Registration for phone bidding opens on the Thursday before the sale. To register as a phone bidder, call 804-629-6839. We'll take your information over the phone - you need your driver's licence, the credit card you'd like to put on file, and an active email address. Once we receive your information, we will send you a confirmation email with your bidder number, instructions on how to bid, and a number to dial to place your bid. 

If I sell a horse or tack in the auction, when do I get my check?

Consignor checks for tack may be picked up in office AT THE VERY END OF THE SALE, AFTER ALL BIDDERS HAVE CHECKED OUT.


Consignor checks for horses/livestock sold for $600 or more (regardless of soundness) will be mailed. If sold AS IS, the check will be mailed on the Monday following the sale. If sold SOUND, the check will be mailed on the Thursday following the sale.

Consignor checks for horses sold AS IS, under $600 may be picked up in the office at the same time as tack checks. Otherwise, they will be mailed on the Monday following the sale.
